Therapist Promotes Holistic Approach for Migraine Sufferers
If you suffer from migraine you can take a large step to control the problem by cleansing your body of toxins. You can do this by increasing the intake of water and improving nutrition.
Patricia MacIntyre, who operates the Hydro Health colon therapy practice in Wellington says migraine sufferers stand to gain from the art of holistic medicine. Mrs MacIntyre will be guest speaker at Kapiti Migraine Support Group at Paraparaumu Community Centre at 1.30pm on July 31.
Stressing that body cleansing should not be viewed as a cure she said it will help remove some of the factors that drive the body to under perform.
Toxic elements in a congested bowel will eventually pollute the bloodstream and take these toxins to the rest of the body. This can affect the nerve centres in the brain causing intense headaches, said Mrs MacIntyre.
Mrs MacIntyre, a qualified nurse, said body management must rate No.1 against business management, home management or life management.
The theory behind colon hydrotherapy is simple, she said, as removing rotting waste residue in the colon begins the process of body cleansing.
In respect to migraine problems, Mrs MacIntyre said a holistic health approach can also incorporate the use of the natural herb product Feverfew, available through health shops.

Treat Your Colon To a Long Soak
Princess Diana does it. The Duchess of York does it. Now hundreds of Wellingtonians are doing it.
Colon hydrotherapy - an alternative health treatment that cleanses the bowel of old rotting waste residues which cause toxins.
The toxins that build up will poison your blood stream, leading to illness throughout your body, says colon therapist Patricia MacIntyre.
A former nurse, Patricia MacIntyre has set up a colon hydrotherapy clinic called Hydro Health.
Colon hydrotherapy uses a plastic disposable speculum placed in the anal passage. Purified water dislodges, dilutes and removes faeces and bacteria that have built up in the colon.
The gentle pressure of the water stimulates the bowel to dislodge waste.
The special colon machine that Patricia uses enables clients to actually see the waste that is being removed.
Many people are apprehensive on their first visit says Patricia. But the treatment is safe, simple and very effective. And it does not hurt. People feel really great and revitalised afterwards.
Once you see what is coming out it really makes them think about what they're putting back in.
People who suffer from constipation, irritable bowel, colon inflammation, diarrhoea and bloating would benefit from colon cleansing.
A Colon Cleanse For Good Health
- Wednesday, 2 July 1997
Although feeling a little apprehensive on my initial appointment for a colon cleanse, I was confident that at worst if could do me no harm - having read a few articles explaining the pros and cons.
Hydro Health, situated at Anglican House, 32 Mulgrave Street , Wellington is run by Patricia MacIntyre.
The location, a lovely old building next to Old St Paul's Church provides a peaceful and relaxing setting. After sitting briefly in the waiting area, I was warmly welcomed by Patricia and shown into her consulting room. We sat chatting for a while about basic health issues during which time she fully explained the colon cleansing process and showed me the equipment used.
A screen was positioned to enable me to partially disrobe and lie on my side as Patricia inserted an anal tube. This perhaps being the most uncomfortable process during the whole session and on a scale of discomfort of one to five, five being extremely uncomfortable, this rated at no more than two. I then turned onto my back with the bed raised at the head and the tube was connected to the water line. From here the process consisted of gentle infusions of water at varying temperatures. After each infusion Patricia would massage my colon area as the water was released assisting with the movement of matter and air pockets. I was amazed at the matter expelled and Patricia explained all of what we were seeing.
I found the whole process to be thoroughly informative. Patricia's professional and friendly manner dispelled any initial apprehensive feelings I had.
Preventative medicine was what had sparked my interest in this form of therapy and I proceeded to have four further cleansing sessions over a two week period.
Being generally in good health I have not experienced a dramatic change but subtly have felt more energetic and somehow lighter .
Patricia is a qualified nurse and trained colon therapist. She discusses nutrition and food combining as an integral part of her therapy. A one hour session costs $75. Arrangements can be made for those clients requiring on-going therapy. Client follow ups are done on a six monthly basis.

Fixing Problems at the Bottom
By Phil Love, Business staff, Evening Post
The idea of lying semi-naked on a bed while a nurse pushes a plastic tube up your backside may not sound a desirable way to spend an hour.
But former nurse Patricia MacIntyre obviously doesn't think so.
Mrs MacIntyre, from Waikanae, has set up a company called Hydro Health that cleans waste products from bowels.
It's and alternative health treatment, one used by Princess Diana and the Duchess of York. No - it may not save your marriage, but it will diminish the risk of cancer or other illnesses.
Mrs MacIntyre says colon hydrotherapy is a simple and relaxing way of cleansing toxins from the body.
If you are carrying old, rotting waste residues in your bowel, and we all do, then the toxins build and poison your bloodstream, leading to illnesses throughout your body, she said. Colon hydrotherapy is not a cure. It is a valuable treatment for a variety of conditions. By stripping the old, toxic lining of the bowel, we remove a major source of disease in the body.
Mrs MacIntyre says people should not feel embarrassed about having the treatment, they would find it comfortable and relaxing. Water is pumped gently into the bowel at a warm temperature, washing hardened waste off the colon walls. No chemicals are used and patients can read or meditate during treatment, which takes about half an hour.
For first-time patients, she allows more than an hour to learnabout their diet and lifestyle. Mrs MacIntyre says about 50 percent of the patients she sees have bowel problems. People should really seek treatment before they get sick, she says.
I'm interested in treating the cause rather than the symptoms. It's better to stay on top of problems before they start.
Mrs MacIntyre says people with symptoms such as constipation, irritable bowel, colon inflammation, diarrhoea and bloating would benefit from colon cleansing.
She recommends patients have a course of four treatments every six months.
